Start at the neck
The collar should close cleanly without pressure. That is the start of sizing, not the conclusion.

Read the body
Chest, waist, sleeve, and back length decide whether the shirt belongs to the wearer. Two people with the same collar can need very different bodies.
Fit as a system. A shirt works when all measurements support one another. The collar is only one part of that system.
A correct collar on the wrong body is still the wrong shirt.
Check after collar size
- Shoulder point and upper chest.
- Chest ease at the button line.
- Waist shape while sitting and standing.
- Sleeve length and cuff position.
- Back length for tucked or untucked wear.
